Following Harald Krugers decision to step down from the chairmanship of BMWs board of management, the board has selected Oliver Zipse, 55, to take the lead at the company.

Zipse is the board member for production and started with BMW in 2001 and has been a board member since 2015.

With Oliver Zipse, a decisive strategic and analytical leader will assume the Chair of the Board of Management of BMW AG, said Dr Nobert Reithofer, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of BMW AG. He will provide the BMW Group with fresh momentum in shaping the mobility of the future.

Zipse reportedly won out over Klaus Froehlic, board member for research. According to Automotive News, the decision is expected to have come down to Zipses slightly younger age.

With its innovative strength, strong brands and dedicated employees, the BMW Group will build on its leadership role in the premium segment going forward and continue on its path to long-term success, said Reithofer.
