BMW Teases "Entry Level" M2 Competition Race Car

Entry level, of course, means different things to different people. When it comes to BMW M Motorsport, it means a club racing version of the M2 Competition. It'll make its race debut this weekend at the VLN Endurance Championship at the Nurburgring.

The wheel to wheel debut for the car will be run by BMW Motorsport, clad in a special camouflage livery. Because this is part of the car's development. That's right, BMW is putting the M2 club racer through real endurance racing before it ever gets into the hands of grassroots racers.

This isn't the first test for the car, of course. BMW has done its own testing at Miramas in France and Portimao in Portugal.

BMW says that there will be a full Racing and a Clubsport version of the car, for different levels of driver and competition. This is designed to appeal to more drivers than the car it replaces, the M240i Racing.

Customer deliveries of the car are slated for the second quarter of next year. Just in time for racing weather. No word on what changes BMW will have made to the car to transform it into a racer._a2_
