BMW Adding Wireless Android Auto

Good news for fans of Android phones and BMWs, you'll finally be able to combine the two starting mid next year.

That's right, BMW is adding Android Auto to the company's infotainment system and, like BMW's Car Play adoption, it will allow wireless connections. The interface allows you to use many of your phone's apps through the infotainment system. Things like maps, music, and podcasts, all through a phone-like interface on the car's screen.

"Many of our customers have pointed out the importance to them of having Android Auto inside a BMW for using a number of familiar Android smartphone features safely without being distracted from the road, in addition to BMW's own functions and services," says Peter Henrich, Senior Vice President Product Management BMW. "We will offer this service to our customers starting in July 2020."

This looks to be one of the first introductions of wireless Android Auto in any vehicle. The update will be revealed for the first time at CES 2020 in July and will be available for all BMW models with BMW OS 7.0._a__a2_
