There ain't no party like a BMW M party, 'cause a BMW M party has...massive amounts of horsepower and extravagance. And BMW M GmbH is going to be throwing a pretty big celebration since they've just posted the biggest sales year for the performance brand ever.

M says that gives them a "leadership position among manufacturers of performance/high-performance automobiles." Though Porsche's sold far more vehicles in the last year, so we're not quite sure we agree. Still, it's an impressive total for BMW M, up 32.2 percent from last year. BMW M also said that 2019 saw "a significant increase in demand for M Sport Packages" as well as BMW Individual customization.

“We are very proud of the fact that we have been able to acquire market leadership in the performance/high-performance automobile segment for the first time in the almost 50 years of the company’s history,” said CEO Markus Flasch.

Multiple M vehicles were brought to market in 2019, the most the company has ever unveiled in one year. The X3 and X4 M, M8 Coupe, and M8 Convertible, as well as a range of Competition M cars.

Top market for M was the U.S., where 44,442 vehicles were sold, one in seven of total BMW sales. Germany took home 26,110 M-cars, and the UK was third with 17,688. The annual total was 135,829.

M Sport Package cars, the M-lite versions, hit a record of nearly 1 million units, BMW M said. That's 25 percent more than the year before. BMW Individual special equipment orders were up more than 50 percent to over 330,000 customers._a2_
