The latest in a long run of art cars from BMW is a quartet of M2 Competition cars. Three of the cars will be hand-painted by contemporary artist Futura 2000, and the last will be a design by the same artist that will see limited-edition production.

Futura is an American graffiti artist known for painting backdrops live on stage for The Clash and has done work for clothing labels and other brands of late.

"The BMW M2 Competition is dynamic, extroverted and, to a certain degree, pleasantly provocative. I consider it a great honour to be able to add a special touch to this vehicle," says Futura 2000.

The one-off cars will have the artists work painted on the outside of the car, and done on the inside as well. For the limited-edition production M2 Competitions, there will be trim strips on the instrument panel and centre console with an individually created design. They'll have leather seats M Sport seats in black and ivory with blue contrast stitching, and door sills with a signature and numbered plaque.

Futura's M2 ARt cars will be revealed later this year, with one slated to have its premiere this week at the Frieze Los Angeles art fair. The production cars will go on sale in June._a2_
