BMW Files Trademark for X8 M in Germany

BMW has filed for a trademark on the name X8 M in Germany. The name, though far from confirmation, suggests that rumors of an X8 crossover and a performance-based thereon may have been accurate.

Although unconfirmed, rumors suggest that an X8 could be a coupe version of the X7, like the X6 is to the X5. The crossover would likely compete against the Audi Q8 and give the industry's insatiable appetite for crossovers and SUVs, it frankly just makes sense.

A performance version of X7 is supposedly not forthcoming-though Alpina is working on one-but as a coupe, a performance model would likely suit the X8 better.

BMWBlog reported late last year that an X8 was set to launch late this year. With the global pandemic, though, it's anyone's guess as to whether or not BMW will be able to stick to that timeline.
