Although the i8 wasnít the hardcore supercar some people wanted, it served the company well as a hybrid sports car. Now that itís dead, BMW reportedly wants to follow it up with another halo car, but this time one that will deliver more power.

According to Car and Driver, the plug-in hybrid supercar will be capable of up to 60 miles of gas-free driving, will have an I4 powering the rear wheels (motors up front), and will deliver almost 600 hp.

The report also claims that the design will be so reminiscent of the M1 that this new hybrid supercar could get louvers in the back window.

Prices of around $160,000 and competition would include the Polestar 1 and the Acura NSX, as well as the 911 Turbo.

The i8, meanwhile, was capable of only 15 miles of EV driving, had a combined output of around 350 hp, and could hit 62 mph in just 4.4 seconds. That 60 split should come tumbling down.
