BMW Shows Off M Parts for 5 Series Range

The M performance spigot doesn’t shut off easily. Not long after the M5 was unveiled, BMW is unveiling a number of M performance parts that will available all the way down the line.

By and large, the new parts are made of carbon fiber for to weigh less and definitely not so that they can charge you more.

The parts start with a new front splitter, a decorative carbon grille. M Performance will deck your mirror caps in carbon and will add side skirts, as well as an accent along the side of the body in black or silver (for the 5 series, the M% gets foiling strips).

Out in the rear, you can pick high-gloss black bumper trim, a new diffuser, two carbon fibre lip options, exhaust tips in either carbon or chrome.

If you’re looking for M5 and M5 Competition-specific trim, you can get M Performance sport brake pads, M Performance sport suspension, and a carbon fibre engine cover, which, wouldn’t you know it, is also furnished by M Performance.

Wheel options for the 5 series include 19-inch M Performance forged wheels finished in Jet Black and two-colour multi spoke 20-inchers, also from M Performance. Just assume that there’s an M Performance somewhere in the name unless I specify otherwise.

The M5 (and Competition) get an exclusive set of 20-inch forged y-spoke 863 M wheels that come in a matte grey finish. Fancy.

Inside, meanwhile, there’s a sport steering wheel that’s offered in carbon and alcantara or carbon and leather. The M5 (and its ilk) can be fitted with an exclusive “pro” steering wheel which is better. For reasons.

The shift paddles behind the steering wheel can also be made of carbon fibre if you really need to save that last eighth of an ounce. Special floor mats and stainless steel pedals can also be added, to round out the look.
