Hey Phatlipt the rear wheel is sick. That's the perfect size lip.

Agreed! The creme on black is without a doubt the finest interior choice; especially with the "must have" perforated luxury seats and the executive 4-spoke steering wheel. It was a deciding factor in purchasing my 7!

Just look how comfy my trophy grade pure bred teacup princess is in my front seats:

That's one happy Maltese:thumbup:
Lol do you own anything that isn't trophy grade? Also props to the guy who threw out the "sike" throwback, lol. I think a guy above asked but it never got answered, what are the benefits or capabilities of accessing those menus? I would look myself but I'm out of town. Thanks!

Read similar posts before somewhere in these forums, so this is nothing new, at least for me!. Thanks anyways.
No it isn't anything new, but as stated in my original post, it takes many days of research through hundreds of threads to find all of this. I have invested that time, so thought I would save a lot of other people that chore.

Guys

Thanks for all the positive feedback. Can I just make 2 quick points.

First, can we please keep 'on topic'. It would be helpful for future posters to add any other 'hidden menus & features' that I didn't cover (such as the Sat Nav info that the first respondent posted) and NOT debate on preferences re colour combinations and wheels, which are entirely irrelevant to this topic.

Second, for the 2 or 3 negative posters ("I've seen all this before"), I never claimed that any of this was new info. I derived all of it from reading hundreds of threads (and thousands of posts) on this (and other) BMW forums. As a new E65 owner, I ploughed through this info over several days get all of this. It is NOT all in the DIY section. Some of it is, but that thread alone runs to 12 pages of info and yet only contains a proportion of this, much of which was buried elsewhere.

I find this (and other) E65 forums to be invaluable, but I haven't found one single concise reference post with all of this info, as most threads drift wildly off topic, as this one has! So although veteran E65 owners will have learned nothing, any future new owners will have a much easier time than I have had in finding out about their car.

Just noticed that the useful Sat Nav post was on BMW land (where I have posted this info as well) so here it is (out of interest, they have made it a 'sticky' at the top of the E65 section).

From Sept 2003, you can also pull up the Navigation diagnostics menu from within the navigation system, confirming the GPS received, gyro and wheel speed input signals are correct:

The sensory check of the navigation system takes place using a hidden menu on the Control Display (CD). The display of internal data and signals on the Control Display enables a check of the navigation system during a test drive.

To open the hidden menu:

Switch off route guidance.
Activate the arrow view.
Switch off voice output.
Then press the menu item 'Voice output on/off' for at least 8 seconds and let go again.

I wouldn't even bother feeding the trolls bud, your work is appreciated!!! Could you explain (like you did with your most recent Sat/Nav update) the significance and capabilities of accessing the menus you describe in your original post, like I said I would see for myself but I'm out of town for a while, thanks!

Many thanks for your appreciation.

To be clear, I am certainly NOT an expert on E65's but there are numerous people within this and other forum sites that are. They will be far better placed than me to answer technical or even detailed questions.

But to respond to your (and a previous posters) question, let me explain how I found each of these things to be useful;

Hidden Service Menu;
I found this useful to check my battery voltage, as I get countless 'Recharge Battery' messages and wanted to know if it was an over-zealous sensor or a dud battery. Confirmed it seems to be the former (thankfully)!
I also found the system test to be the easiest way to check that every one of the sensors and warning lights are functioning correctly (and what they look like). It's also a bit of fun!
Other posters have found this menu to be useful to check coolant temperature.
There's loads more info in here but I haven't messed with it!

IDrive Hidden Menu;
This was useful to check the version of my Sat Nav system software (to know whether or not I needed to update it) and therefore which DVD's would work and which wouldn't.
There's other interesting stuff in there too, but none of it seemed too useful.

To Sync a remote;
I have a problem with my Comfort Access. This enabled me to eliminate a key / coding issue and narrowed down my problem, making it more cost efficient when I send the car to the BMW dealer to get it fixed. It's also useful if a remote loses its memory after a dead battery.

Reset Transmission;
I don't have a problem with mine but I listed this for completeness.

Check Control Messages;
To answer an earlier posters question, this is the system that flashes up a warning (usually resulting in an orange car symbol in iDrive), that stays 'active' until resolved e.g. Recharge Battery, Washer Fluid Low etc. They can be accessed via iDrive but the quickest way is as I described.

Sunroof Reset;
I have an unacceptable noise from my closed sunroof and am going to get the seal replaced. The reset procedure was useful to eliminate the roof from being the problem and narrow it down to the seal.

BMW Land (a predominantly UK users site) have 'stuck' my post at the very top of the E65 forum, so users have an easily accessible reference, which I would have loved when trying to find all of this out myself! I understand the suggestion that this probably needs to go in 'technical info' but it will then be buried at the end of 12 or 13 pages of info, much of which is less relevant. Hopefully a 'search' will get other new users to it quickly.

You are right that I shouldn't get irritated by some of the negative responses. I certainly didn't pull all this together for praise (although the kind comments are, of course, much appreciated) but I didn't expect dumb ass comments. I have found these forums to be invaluable, if you have lots of time or you find a helpful member(s) regarding a problem. The information is, however, mostly poorly sorted, cluttered with 'chat' and 'off topic' stuff (hands up - I have fallen into this trap once or twice myself) and the search functions are poor. Having benefitted a lot personally, I just wanted to give a bit back through some basic organisational activity!

That is EXCELLENT INFO thanks a million.

Resetting major maintenance interval

I have seen all these posts for some time and i still don't have the answer i need. I have been able to reset all the service intervals in the hidden menu........................

But, what i want to know is how to reset the service engine light? You know the one where the little car goes from green to red and a mileage indicator as to when the next scheduled major maintenance is due. I have done all the major maintenance items but can't reset the system.

Any help here or is this a dealer issue?

To sync a key. Does this work if you have a key fob that when inserted, it says "wrong key"?
I'm no expert on this, but as far as I know a key has to be originally synced at a dealer. Thereafter, a temporary failure (following dead battery replacement etc) can often be resolved with this method.

You won't do any harm trying it, so I would give it a go. If it works, you've saved yourself some money, if it doesn't then a dealer visit is required. I was advised to try this to try to solve my comfort access issue - it didn't work in my case, but it has done for others.

Another, more technically minded, member will undoubtedly have the answer to your question. I presume you have tried 'Search', so posting a new thread on this will get you your answer. I haven't messed with every option in the hidden service menu (trip button), so you could have a fish around in there as a start point. Failing that, I have definitely read that you can purchase a piece of kit that enables you to do this, which might be worth it if you do your own servicing.
