I have the 18" wheels 225/45 R18 with Continental ContactPro all seasons.
Each tire was 42 psi from delivery, yet the sticker on the drivers inside door says
42 rear and 35 front.

What are your tires set at?

I'd set them to what the door says, though that discrepancy between front and rear is larger than I've ever seen for same wheels mounted front and back, but then I've never had run-flats before.

I wouldn't worry about what the dealer set: They tend to set it high so the tires don't develop flatspots while the cars sit on the lot.

Anyone know if staggered setup has the same psi for front and rear, or do all X1's get the same psi regardless of wheel options?
My staggered set-up is 35F/38R. That's where I keep them.

A few years back BMW(as well as most other manufacturers) would put different tire pressure recommendations based on load...IOW, more pressure if fully loaded. Nowadays, all manufacturers just put the maximum pressure on the labels. I imagine that the FORD/Firestone tire fiasco had much to do with this practice.

Anyway, based on this, I wouldn't have any great concern about dropping a few lbs out of the rear tires, if for nothing else, to soften the ride a bit. For now though, they'll stay at factory specs.

I would not recommend doing this. Ride and handling on RFT tires is extremely sensitive to tire pressure. Especially on the rears, more than a pound or two makes for a very twitchy ride, and worse tramlining characteristics.

On our X1 we have the 225/45/18 but ours are Pirellis (sp?). I just checked the pressure last night and have 42psi in all 4 tires. I have been thinking of playing with the rear tire psi because when driving on freeways the rear of the car feels like it wants to slide with any little movement of the steering wheel. I am guessing it has to do with the RFT's? Has anyone changed their psi to fix this?

We had an A4 that felt the same way when we put cheap tires on to hold us over until we could decide if we were going to buy a new car or not. We ended up going back two days later and put a better quality tire on and the problem was fixed.

Sig to come later.

Does your door sticker say 35 front and 42 rear?

Sounds like right from factory, BMW just puts 42 in all the tires?
Speaking for 18's only of course.
