2002 530I - Lately my car is getting hot. When I am in a log line at the drive thru, it starts getting hot, sometimes all the way to the red. If I can get back on the road and drive it will cool down and go back to normal. Today I was driving and the car was getting hot, so I stopped to see if...

So, today my car caught on fire, but I was able to put it out before too much damage occurred. I have a 2001 BMW 530i just for the record. It seemed to come from the auxiliary fan, burned a hole through the vent as seen in the attached picture. I hear that there was a recall with certain models...

Hello all! First post here or on any car forum though I've followed many. Be kind. My household recently acquired a 1987 325es. Our first BMW and first import for that matter. It's in great shape but with a few eccentricities. 80k miles on the odometer (though I suspect it's closer to 100k as...

Hi folks, I'm wondering if my electric (auxiliary) cooling fan is supposed to turn on briefly at start-up, so that the system can check if it's operational. Mine doesn't, but the Bentley manual says that it should run briefly at 20% it's max speed for diagnostic monitoring. I've got the...

2002 530i 90,000 miles and after an episode of "loud helicopter noise" the Auxiliary fan no longer turns on at all (even when AC is engaged) do i need a new Aux fan, or is it a radiator hose sensor, fuse, computer, or other ailment? the Aux fan is upwards of $350 alone plus hours of labor...

First, HI peeps! New to the forum. Okay, second, I have a dilemma approaching fast and need advice. I took my car to the mechanic on Friday and complained about the grinding noise the fan makes when it turns on. No rhyme or reason, just turns on and makes the noise, not specifically with the...

I've read and re-read the Bentley manual's description of the auxiliary fan. The manual states that the fan does a self-test when the car is started. The fan spins up to 20 percent of full speed, and if the fan fails the self-test, the ECU stores a fault code. My car's auxiliary fan (on an...

Long time lurker, first time poster. Looks like I need to replace the aux fan on my '97 528i. This uses the old-style, 4-wire resistor controlled fan. Aftermarket aux fan units selling for ~$150 litter the internet (OEM ones are $300+). Do any of you have any experience with one of these...

Hey guys, I've been looking through the other cooling threads and cant find one that helps any further. on my 93 325is the auxiliary fan stopped engaging. I jumped the switch on the passenger side of the radiator and it spun right up. so i drove around with it jumper for a week until the new...

I have a 2002 330ci and my front auxiliary fan will not stop running. The only time it stops running is when the battery is unplugged or when I disconnect the wires from the fan. Today I replaced the water temp sensor and it still runs all the time.
