Background: My 528i (m52tu) has low compression in cylinder 3, and I'm in the process of removing/replacing the cylinder head. The car was overheated years ago, still ran ok but was never quite the same, had cylinder 3 misfire codes, spent some time in storage and now I'm tearing into it. My...

I'm having an issue starting my 00-M52TU 520i. The engine starts as normal but only very briefly as it stalls immediately. So, my first thought was blocked CCV. However, balloon test suggests otherwise. 2nd thought was Vanos, but my symptoms don't really match that either...

I wanted to report my experience, and the final solution in hopes that it might help someone diagnose and quickly fix a similar issue like mine. It started a few months ago in my 2000 E39 with M52TU engine at 168K miles. While running, usually in city driving, after a stop at a red light etc...

Is the [U.S.] Spec M52TU in my 2000 528i an iron block or aluminum. Ive done some reading and I found that all u.s. spec M52 motors were iron blocks EXCEPT the Z3 which had an aluminum block. My engine is dead and its time to swap it out but I keep finding the aluminum block M52TU's for sale.

As the title says I was hoping to get some diagnostic help on my US 2000 z3 2.3 Roadster. Engine: M52 TU DME: MS 42.0 (see pictures for details) The CEL EML ASC+T/DSC lights are all illuminated. I am receiving two error codes as well: A9 (169) Engine throttle output-stage shutoff after...

Up for sale is a 2000 528i automatic with clean title in hand. I had purchased the car for my mom, but apparently it's "too big" for her. The cylinder head was replaced with new lifters due to severe oil leak at rear of head. I've driven the car daily from the east bay to work in San Francisco...

WOO! first post. Anyway, I have a 2000 528i and have gotten the idea of turbocharging it stuck in my head. I have spent a considerable amount of time researching this possibility, and have encountered a lot of.... resistance. The classic "buy the m5/540" line is not what I'm looking for. I am...

Hi everyone! So I was torquing down my head bolts and I heard a pop on the intake side seconding bolt from the front on the engine. I've decided after researching my options that I am going to use time-serts. I have already had my head pressure tested and checked for warpage and everything cam...

Ok, I know this has been covered ad nauseum...I've done a lot of reading here and there. Fixed one vacuum leak, the drain pipe from the CCV to the dipstick tube base. That cleared up a lot of codes, it idles better when cold but I'm left with two codes, P1188 & P1189). I applied vacuum to the...
