I wondered if any E39 owners have encountered water in the right rear passenger foot well. On really rainy days, the foot well gets wet inside the car. I suppose a sunroof drain could be the culprit, but I am new to this body style and I am looking for advice. Thanks!

+1, many have had this problem and it's easily fixed. Do a search for the DIY.

I followed the DIY and resealed both rear vapor barriers several months ago. The problem has not returned. I did not even pull the entire panel...just backed out the door handle screw, undid the screws behind the wood trim and popped the clips along the side and bottom. Reached behind the panel, applied silicone sealant and put everything back together. Dealer wanted $400 for a fix. This one is easy - unless you have a rear side air bag........

This is for an M5 with rear air-bag in the doors, but it should give you a very good idea what's happening and how to fix it.

Remember, the carpeting on our cars is bonded to very dense foam padding. It really soaks up a ton of water, and takes forever to dry out.
