That says it all. Driving to Detroit after two hours on the road I hear what sounds like a chain! Then the gear symbol and a “take it easy” warning on the screen. I got to my destination, let it sit a few hours. Drives fine! Local BMW shop say about 5K for the megatronic valve body R&R. What are my options? My first BMW, life long garage guy.

Thanks for the info. I went to the site and booked marked for future needs.
I’ve been watching YouTube videos of the repair. I’ve noticed none are for all wheel drive! Does the transfer case have to be removed?

Wow, thanks for the help. The trouble code has only happened once so I’m still driving with my fingers crossed. Fortunately I have a friend with a lift. When I finally have to do it I’ll watch a hundred videos first. Is there such a thing these days as a paper manual for this car? Or is it on line subscription only?

It’s been a month since I got the trans code. I’ve driven about 1500 miles with no trouble. The only problem now is ME! I keep waiting for that damn code to appear again. So I was thinking of slowly getting all the stuff I’ll need to do the valve body service and the oil pan gasket at the same time. Maybe over the winter.
