I need to replace the battery for my wife's loaded 2016 535i with pretty much every option, so I need to stay with an 105AH AGM battery. The original battery is a VARTA 105AH, 950A. Looking at realoem.com, the battery I need is a 105AH battery, part number 61212353814 which according to bmwpartspros.com, BMW has replaced with a new part number, 61-21-5-A40-E33

I've talked to bmwpartspros (Steve Thomas BMW) which is a few minutes from my house and they said that the only option they have is the 92AH battery, part number 61-21-5-A40-E29. They told me that BMW has discontinued the 105AH 61-21-5-A40-E33 battery and has upgraded it to part number 61-21-5-A40-E29 and that they no longer have any 61-21-5-A40-E33 in-stock. The 61-21-5-A40-E29 is a 92AH battery and I know I can code it as an alternative option but it looks like the dealers are now only offer a 92AH battery even if the car specs for an 105AH battery. I guess I need to go aftermarket but I only see 100AH vs. 105AH available in most auto parts store. Better than 92AH I guess but it would have been ideal to have an exact spec matched battery.

My dealership also didn't have the OEM Battery for my car either. They gave me choice of an after market battery or wait a few days for them to order OEM. I elected to go with the after market they were offering. MTX95RH9 105AH AGM Battery was installed in my car by dealership. been in there a slightly over a week , everything is good. When i looked up on line it said 100AH, I don't know if they under rate the AH . just wanted to share the part number off my invoice. BMW 2014 550 ix

Thanks, that looks like an Interstate battery and 100AH is close enough and should be fine.

I just ordered one from O'Reillys as well. It looks like it is an exact match as the OEM, H9/95R,105Ah, 950A.

Somebody left this review:
Not fully compatible with F10 535i xDrive
The battery was not compatible with my car even though it was identified as such through the online portal. While it did fit and power the vehicle, it was not able to be registered with the computer resulting in faults being thrown.

The O'Reilleys H9 AGM battery registered just fine using Carly. No issues. It is the only battery that I could find locally that was rated the same as the OEM at 105AH.

I checked with getbmwparts.com (BMW of Silver Spring) and they said they had 61-21-5-A40-E33, they just don't ship them. Local pick up only. Works for me as they are local. If you want a battery from the dealer it is worth giving another dealer a call.
Interesting, I called another dealer and they said they will sell them at $345 and not able to match the $179 that bmwpartspros advertised. So not sure if this a pricing mistake at bmwpartspros and they don’t want to sell me a battery at that price or the other dealer is gouging me. Either way, the O’Reillys battery is installed and works just fine. Thanks

Depends on your configuration.
You need to code the car to the smaler size battery.

I also got the same spiel from my local dealer in So Cal on how the 92Ah was just fine. No thanks. I got Part# 95RPLT from O'Reilly, it's 105 Ah even though it doesn't show on the online spec sheet. Had the same exact vent accessory baggie attached to it like the East Penn BMW units, though I couldn't find any markings on the battery itself showing EP, so it could be a German import too, i.e. relabel of Bosch S6-95R. https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/...om/detail/c/platinum/super-start-platinum-battery-group-size-95r-h9/ssbq/95rplt Coded it with BimmerLink, charged fully from the jumper posts, and it's good to go. My transmission is now working smoothly too.

Just purchased a 105 AH BMW AGM battery (H9 battery class size) from my local dealership in Jan/2023…cost $236 + local taxes + $18 refundable core charge - 10% BMW CCA discount…came to $227 final cost.

Came with little plastic baggy adhered to the side that contained a spare little black elbow and a spare plug to insert in the other side of the battery (prevents gas expelled from the battery from accumulating in the enclosed battery compartment).
