Hi members,I wanna change oil in our 745i 2004 with 180,000..I've read about Liqui Moli that is suppose to be good. I wanna go with 10/60 instead of 5/20 because a little thicker meaning less smoke as the seals are getting older. I was told that by someone who's try that in his 225,000 m3..I've read a lot of post on oil on the forum. Cannot seem to make up my mind. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The problem has been discussed several times. I can't find the thread. Some success has been had, using the correct viscosity mobile 1 high mileage oil, with liqui Moly. However be advised this is only temporary. There has been some discussion on using heavier weight oil. However this was discounted because of the small oil passages could plug up in the engine. Causing further problems. Eventually you're going to have to bite the bullet and have the valve seals replaced. And if the car continues to burn oil you're looking at replacing the catalytic converter's. There are numerous places in the United States to have this done for about $2500. Or you can go with the AGM kit and cut the price in half by doing the job yourself.

u needs to change valve stem seal...
thicker oil won't help much if u already has bad seal.
after change the valve stem seal u can swap to 10W60 and the seal will last longer...
I use 10W60 on my car..very quiet and smooth...much better than 5W40 come with the car...
the only downside u has is a drop back in mpg

problem with this car is engine oil become too hot so the seal get breakdown faster.

Mine was doing the same thing til it got worse and worse. So the Indy shop I take it to has a petroleum Speacialist guy he's friends with. He Ran my car on high (higher than normal) idle for about 10 minutes he says. Then changed the oil and added some kind of chemical. Then ran it on a little higher idle and blew most of the smoke out I guess. Whatever he did. I've only seen my car smoke 2 times and they were at long 4 or so minute lights and I smashed the gas pedal. But taking off normally I don't see any smoke anymore. and my oil blocks haven't hanged in about 1500 miles where I used to need oil every 6-700 miles or so.

What was the product he used? Maybe it's listed in your service record. The story is good but it does not help, without the product name. There are a lot of oil additives on the market. Please find out which one. If possible.

Thanks
Rick.

My 750 smokes at long idle, but no smoke at startup or any other time. I did have bad ccv valves and changed those. Seemed to get worse after that leading me to believe it's something in the ccv system or vacuum leak. I changed oil added some liqui moly oil saver to oil. See if that helps any.

It would seem to me if seals were bad oil would leak through while car was parked and would smoke at startup. But only get when engine warm and long idle.

I am also getting a fault code for O2 sensor pre car bank 2, gotta replace that and see what happens. Will update.
