Hi, I have rough idle, loss of power and in general a noisy engine. Error code 2A88 exhaust vanos.

Consequently I replaced everything related. Timing chain, gear, vanos units, tensioner. Solenoids were cleaned and tested, and cam position sensors replaced.

After all this, the engine behaves just the same, as if nothing happened.

I am out of ideas. Please help.

Thanks for your reply. What does "re-adapting the vanos units " exactly mean?

The oil was replaced, and the engine was very clean inside. The mesh on the solenoids had no debris, and the solenoids operated freely.

Hi just got your question regarding vanos adaption
Well it is to let the engine control unit (ecu) know that you have cleaned or renew the vanos
And to relearn the new settings for the camshaft positions
If you have a diagnostic tool. Look at engine control unit special functions and follow the procedure on the tool
If your diagnostic tool does support the function find someone with autolodgic, auto-com,snap-on or,insta
they can all perform the job It should be tried first before looking further
hope this helps. Joe
