John Shafer,

Any comments? A BMW Center in Northern California is adding an additional $1500 above the MSRP to all E46's. I was told that this surcharge is the result of increased demand. I guess that I will be making a call to Franco and traveling to Santa Barbara for our next BMW purchase.

Is this the only BMW Center with this dealer mark up?

I'm not sure if Jon has any control over what other DEALERSHIPS choose to charge for their cars...I know Jon has control over what CUTTER charges.

Unless Jon just got a promotion that NONE of us knows about to the regional director of BMW sales. Jon? Time to 'fess up?

MRSP

BS. Call or email all dealers within your driving area. I know that SOCAL has dealers that will sell at MRSP.

I don't know how things work out on the left coast, but here in NY, if a dealer wouldn't come down below MSRP, my ass would be out the door. I know of at least a dozen dealers in driving distance of my apartment, and you better bet all of them would be Rizzoed.

I think you guys are actually believing too much of what the dealers are telling you.

Most SoCal dealers will sell below MSRP on non-M cars.

If you're talking about BMW Concord, yeah, they put a ~20% markup on everything sold there. They call it "Market Adjusted Price" and negotiate down from there to MSRP.

I live just 10 min away and they were the first dealership I went to when I was car shopping last year. Ironicly when I made the rounds to order a car though the fleet manager/internet sales, I got the lowest price quote from them. :dunno:

If you don't mind heading out to Sacramento to take a look I would suggest Niello BMW. Ask for Maureen Petrillo and tell her I sent you. She's very busy, but will call you back if you get her voicemail. I just picked up my car last weekend and she took good care of me. MSRP wasn't ever brought up and we came nowhere near it. :D

"rizzoed"? whats that mean?
Rizzo method isn't a bad way to go. I've done it in the past long before I can remember someone calling it Rizzo.

This time, I just found a good price that was ~$1500 over invoice from an online leasing company and presented it to the sales rep. He had a choice. Match the price or I walk. After many tries by him and his GSM to convince me otherwise, I walked out of the dealership. Just as I was closing the door to my car the sales rep came running to me and matched the price.

If I had the opportunity I would have gone the Rizzo method. At the moment, I just didn't have the time.

that's insane, I would not pay MSRP for BMWs besides the M cars and the Z8. And I will not pay OVER MSRP for ANY BMWs, period.

When I ordered my 330, the 330 hadn't even come out yet and the Coupes were real hot, and I paid MSRP, I didn't know about bimmer.org back then and otherwise I wouldn't have paid that much for my car.

And I know dealerships at least around Texas that sold M3, M5, and Z8 at MSRP.
