17k miles and my Conti's in the rear are almost gone!

17k miles and my rear tires are the same level as the wear indicators, need new tires pretty soon. the front tires still got quite a bit but the rears are almost shot. Is this normal for BMW/RWD?

I'll probably get a set of either S03 or Sumi HTR Z II when I get up to 20k miles...

Yeup, my Pilot Sports are about gone as well, with an aggregate 14k on them right now. I'm hoping to make it another 1-2k!
yep, my contis went at about the same time.

I also waited until 20k to replace 'em with the S03's (which just got done last Friday).

Much, much better :thumb:
I want some opinions on S03 vs. Sumi HTR Z II! I posted on W&T forum but I want to hear what some of u have to say here. I know Emission got the Sumi's, and a lot of others got the S03's. I wanna hear if you guys think the S03's are worth $300 more. I track my car a few times a year so these tires won't last long, and $300 pretty much will pay for a DE weekend. ;)

I like S-03s a lot. Very good at the track...

I can't compare to HTR-Z IIs becasue they don't make them in my size :dunno:

W3rd!
my contisport rears went out at 17K as well. since the fronts had lots of life left, I simply replaced the rears with new contisports this time around. next time, all four are getting replaced with S03's.

my fronts got lots of life left too! but I hate to pay for the Conti's... i wonder what will it be like if i get S03's for the rears only? ;)

My fronts are both brand new (hit a nail, long story) so I really have two choices: spend $800, get 4 new S03s all around, keep the front two Pilot Sports for lease turn-in and buy 2 new/used Pilot Sports for the rears, OR just buy two new Pilot Sport rears right now ($500) and get a new set which should last through lease turn-in. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get 2 new Pilots real soon. ;)
oh man, i got at least another 2-3k on my contis

just over 18.5k. mostly highway driving... but the wet traction is still horrible. my next set of tires need to last me a while as i have little money being a student. btw, speaking of replacing tires, when everyone replaces tires do you get 5 and replace the basically new spare? or ge 4 and keep the spare whatever it was? thanks
my rears lasted to 20500, I replaced them when I couldn't stand to hear the horrible roarrrrrrrrrrrr any longer, they were gone gone... :(

If you switch tire brands/sizes, you'll want to do the spare too unless you ONLY plan to use it as a spare (a temp wheel) in times of emergency.

that is ridiculous! alee, must've cost you a fortune for all, what 11, m68s. i wanted m68s, but i think my wheel upgrade will be to m5 replicas (cuz i want to stick with 17s and price).

Nah, 5 came with the car. 4 refurb'd M68s ran me $1075 shipped. Spare M68 another $200. $850 for a set of 5 Blizzaks. Got a rim scratched by road debris, and picked up an M68 on eBay for 200ish.

Oh wait, that is a lot.

Yes you are a sick monkey for sure sir. :D :thumb:
Nate I took your advice, I checked my tires again and the indicators are pretty much touching the ground. I don't wanna wait any more miles as it's pretty important... So I just ordered 4 S03's from TireRack! Had them drop-shipped to Terry Sayther, an independent BMW shop here in Austin. Should have them on some time next week and I'll post review!
