I would check all vacuum lines, fuel pressure, plugs, wires, and fuel filter. If they are origional they could be the cause.
I've just started my 1981 E23 732i up, after having it garaged for 16 years. At first, it would start and then immediately stall, and I couldn't figure out the problem. Renewed the coil, still the problem remained. I was getting voltage at the coil posts, but no spark. I then gave it another earth, and she started up and ran. It may be that the coil earth was bad, as in my case. The issue was resolved. After replacing the ignition coil I haven't had any issues since.
