I would check all vacuum lines, fuel pressure, plugs, wires, and fuel filter. If they are origional they could be the cause.
1979 BMW 733i - Stalling Issues
Recently my 733i with 89,000 miles has developed issues remaining running. The engine will cut off randomly while driving without warning. It has stalled at stop lights, accelerating, cruising on the highway, and sometimes it doesn't start while at other times it runs perfectly. Please be welcome to make suggestions and ask questions. All help is appreciated.

The issue was resolved. After replacing the ignition coil I haven't had any issues since.
I've just started my 1981 E23 732i up, after having it garaged for 16 years. At first, it would start and then immediately stall, and I couldn't figure out the problem. Renewed the coil, still the problem remained. I was getting voltage at the coil posts, but no spark. I then gave it another earth, and she started up and ran. It may be that the coil earth was bad, as in my case.The issue was resolved. After replacing the ignition coil I haven't had any issues since.
