Hello and thanks for reading! I just recently obtained a very nice 1982 528e. The car runs very well and is in good shape, but it has a few small problems.

First, the gentleman I got the car from took out one of the sensors in the dash, but the "brake lights" light continues to stay on. There is nothing wrong with the brakes, for some reason the light just never went out when the sensor was taken out.

Second, My antenna only works about half. It won't raise, but it still manages to pick up a couple of stations. (Yes, the stereo is aftermarket)

Does anyone know how to fix these problems, and how much it would cost? I am a first-time bmw owner, and I am unfamiliar when it comes to working on cars in general, haha. Thanks for reading and have a great day! :)

As to removing the sensor I am assuming you are talking about the sensor for the brake pads. Until you replace the sensor on the brake pads the light will stay on. My last 2 528e have had the light on the whole time I had them. Since you have a 82 it can not be the ABS sensor, since it did not have it.

With the Antenna, either the motor has died and you need to buy another one, either OEM or after market. I just tend to buy the rubber one and go with that.
The other problem could be that your mast is just stuck and you need to replace it. If this is it, there are two types of masts. One is smooth and the other has teeth. The way that you remove the mast is undo the nut holding it on. Then have someone turn the radio on and pull on the mast, this should remove the mast with the plastic strip.

If it's the brake lights indicator, the bulb holders are probably corroded. You can clean them up or buy some new replacements for about $5 each. They tend to corrode where the bulb goes into the holder and where the holder contacts the metal grid on the tailights. This will in turn cause a blown stop light fuse. I've had to deal with this a few times.
