1988 M3 Fuel Tank Removal (Rust Removal)

I need to remove my Fuel Tank on my 1988 M3. I have not checked yet. Is the fuel tank bolted or welded in place. I need to have my fuel clean / Reconditioned due to Rust. Or replaced.

Who has had to do this?
