I have a 2007 2.0d X3 with 149k on the clock. Clutch and Flywheel replaced 110k.

Yesterday after maybe 7 miles of driving in 6th cruising along bad vibrations started through the whole car accompaniedby an awful burning smell coming through the fan from the engine.

The steering wheel was also vibrating quite bad. No other problems were encountered, car driving otherwise as normal.

Booked in with mechanic tomorrow but wouldn't mind an idea of what it is, thanks

Been told I could have a faulty flexi pipe at turbo and my wheels may be offline or possibly buckled. I haven't hit anything and had 2 new tyres replaced last summer for MOT/Vehicle Inspection Test. The roads unfortunately where I live are appalling. Northern Ireland.

Many thanks,

Could be a lot of things including failed engine mount(s) or half-axle.

Probably nothing to do with your current issue, but any AWD system needs all 4 tires to be as similar in rolling circumference as possible. Putting on only 2 new tires is probably putting significant stress on your transfer case.
