PART 1 - Descriptions and Parts list:

-----------------------------------------

This particular vehicle has just over 150,000 miles on the odometer, and although no slip can be noted from the clutch, the SAC has about 2 inches of clutch uptake remaining. This results in a clutch that is difficult to modulate, and makes for unpleasant driving when in stop-and-go traffic for example.

Because the Dual mass flywheel employed by BMW on this particular vehicle often requires replacement along with the clutch, a complete refresh of both clutch and flywheel is in order.
Along with these two major mechanical components, a shifter bushing refresh will also be performed, and all major seals and bearings will be inspected and replaced as necessary.

Once the clutch has been removed from the vehicle, a test for play on the flywheel will reveal if it too needs to be replaced. This play will be evident when moving the flywheel forwards and backwards in relation to its outer diameter. If the flywheel begins to display an apparent wobble, it will need to be replaced. The mating surface between clutch and flywheel must also be inspected, in order to guarantee correct fitment when only replacing the clutch.

The complete list of parts to be replaced is as follows:

Stay tuned for a documented review of the installation and results of this service.
