As the title says, I just received a 335i with 130k miles. I've been browsing the forums for common issue threads, but I haven't really learned much other than to buy the warranty (not really an option).

The owner before me was the original owner and babied this car, no major issues yet (other than the exploding sunroof). The miles are mostly highway and the cars never been tracked.

What are the major maintenance/repairs I should be expecting in the next 20k miles? I understand that everything is a possibility and may or may not happen but what are common issues (fuel pump, etc.)? I'm debating keeping this car or trading it and getting something more affordable (350z or frs)

Thats a great platform you have there. I would look to change the plugs (DIY) as that is cheap and they should be done every 40K on the N54 engine.

With your mileage i would look at potentially replacing the battery, water pump, & thermostat. Also inspect the oil and valve cover gasket for any leaking. Finally search walnut blast for cleaning the intake plenum on the DI engine. Get a good indy who specializes on BMWs and not the BMW dealer.

I would much rather have a 335i in good shape then the FRS or 350. Just my thoughts. its a solid platform, You can easily upgrade the suspension for the M3 one (bolt on parts) and tune the car for more power, but really the car as more then enough power from the factory.

Calwaterboy Due can comment on this, but to add my 2 cents the original owner should've had the HPFP replaced as part of the mandatory recall as well as the battery cable. You may need to check with him just to be sure he had it done and if he has all the past maintenance records that would help you so you will know what has been recently serviced and what would need to be done soon.

You might check to see if the transmission fluid and filter were changed at 100k. A leaking oil filter housing gasket has sometimes popped up as a problem also.

Gaskets tend to leak on these cars. Consider it maintenance

I have heard of the exploding sunroof before. Don't know the facts.
