Hi Folks, Just wanting some advice on whether to buy a 2007 530i or a2008 535i. I here so many:) complaints about the 535i from a relability standpoint. I was wondering if the 530 i had issues with the hpfp and injectors similar to the 535i. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

It should have issue as 535 has. But I tried 535 and it's fast car, feels much lighter then my 550. So I guees 530 will be feel slow. So buy 535 and warranty for this car.

The 525i, 530i, 535i as far as to my knowledge its just the HP difference and a few other minor changes. 525 may have more features than a 535i, it just depends on the package its equipment with such as the cold weather package, sports package, adaptive headlights etc.
I say pick a car that has the least amount of miles, good service history report, good interior smell, well kept etc. To me it really don't matter if the car has more horse power with a bigger engine. If it has a bigger engine but its been beat the "H" up I would rather take a car with a smaller engine that hasn't been. I hope you see my point. In other words for example when it comes time to trade it in the 07 bmw might hold its value a little more than the 08 because of its condition and mileage. The 08 bmw might not because it was in worst condition and miles.

If you care about (and like) pickup and speed. buy the 535 - the 300 ft/lb makes it's a lot more fun, if not, buy the 530.

If you're buying a 535 now, just make sure it has had the HPFP and Injectors replaced in the past year (if needed) under the recall. Most of us have been trouble free since the latest HPFP has been on.

Good luck.

The 530i will not have turbo engine related issues that some 535i's have experienced. That does not mean that the 530i doesn't have maintenance concerns. I have been driving a 530i sport for 5 years, and have experienced issues with air conditioning, a radiator leak (radiator replaced), and a transmission fluid leak. The radiator and transmission fluid leaks were an issue just recently, as my car has over 50,000 miles. Luckily, these were all addressed under CPO warranty (I bought my car CPO after a 3 year lease). Either the 530i or the 535i could have these issues.

A real advantage of the 2008 535i is that it likely will have a longer warranty period. When considering which car to purchase, try to get BMW CPO or a quality extended warranty. I am a happy owner of the 2007 530i, with no buyer's remorse. I might not feel the same way if I didn't have warranty coverage.

Also, if either car has the sport package, that would be a plus. To me, the sport package with an upgraded suspension is a high priority. I would rather have a 530i with sport, than a 535i without it.

My 535i is on a lease that runs out in May ... I really love this car (my 3rd BMW) and am considering buying it at the end of lease.

Just wondering, were you the lease holder? I'd like to get the same type of warranty as if I simply purchased a CPO.

Sorry to readers if I venture off-topic...
Yes, I obtained my car brand new via a lease in late December 2006. When my lease was ending in 2009, the Lease Return specialist at the dealership offered a special deal to buy CPO for $1995, which also came with financing of .9% for 60 months. I do not know what the deals are today, or what will be offered in May, but it would help to inquire at the dealership what options there are. I believe the CPO Warranty today is the same as it was 2 years ago. Maybe others can comment if CPO has changed.

For those buying a used BMW, whether the same car after lease, or any other used BMW, CPO /extended warranty coverage should be seriously considered. The CPO warranty has paid for real costs on my car; it should at least offer peace-of-mind for everyone else.

I owned a 07 530i fully loaded with the exception of the HUD and I have owned the 2008 535i fully loaded without the HUD also. Both had the comfort seats which are the best seats I personally have ever sat in in a car period. If I am not mistaken the 07 had a smaller idrive screen than the 08 did and the interface was much better in the 08 than the 07.
That was the only thing I liked about the 535 though. I bought both as CPO's and the 530 never hiccuped on me for anything. The 535 was in the shop for many reasons starting with stalling at stop lights, transmission shifting hard or to long between changes, various engine noises that would magically disappear once it was at the dealers shot? Sure the 535 had a little more power than the 530 but not that much to warrant me buying another one. I am finished with any BMW that ends in 35's.
Right now I am driving my 03 525i and it services me well. I am in the market again for either a 330 Vert or I have my eyes on a 07 530i loaded with warranty and only 70K miles 1 owner for $18,999. Oh yes I have owned a new 335ci Hardtop Convertible that also had engine problems and I drove it off the lot with less than 20 miles on the clock. It was in the shop within a month. Beautiful car though no doubt a hear turner but I could not continue to have those same problems again on a 70K car. So its back to the older models that are broken in good and hopefully serviced correctly. I wish you luck but for me the 30's are much better and they are for the most part cheaper!

Hi Old -School, Thank you for replying to my thread. Reading all of the complaints concerning the high pressure fuel pump and long crank times makes one leary of the 35 series. it is such a shame the customer has to be the guinea pig for the latest and greatest engineering. I think I will probably by the 335I with an extendeded bumper to bumper warranty. Thanks again for your feed back.

Good Driving,

Bill

The hpfp in the 535 is under warranty by bmwna for 10 yrs or 120k miles. When I picked up my CPO 09 AW 535i in April the SA showed me that the injectors and hpfp were replaced as part of the CPO process at their dealership. As with every car cramed full of technology you are bound to run into issues with both the 530i and 535i. For the 535i carbon build up is a issue with the DI system however I know I have to spend ~$500 every so often to get the valves walnut blasted of it isn't covered by the warranty. In the end I love how this car handles and goes when I hit the gas, especially in kick down mode. Test drive both and pick the one you like and can live with.
