my 2008 E93 has about 26k miles. On hot days (about 78 degrees or higher) in the bay area, I hear a high pitched whining noise from the engine. I usually have the A/C on when this happens but I hear it after shutting off the A/C too.

Has anyone had this problem before? Any ideas about what's causing this?

That's what I assumed too, and it could just be the fan but the noise is much louder than I would have expected.
