Hello all, I have been a long time reader but this is my first post. I have found this forum to be very helpful when I was making my decision on picking up my first BMW.
About 8 months ago I picked up a fully loaded 2008 BMW X5 4.8i with Sports Package and Adaptive Drive but no 3rd Row Seat (I did not want it as I only have 2 kids.) It has been a great vehicle but I constantly get a "Level Control System Malfunction!" error message. Earlier the message was coming on intermittently regardless of what I was doing... parked, driving hard, or cruising on the freeway. After the dealer replaced the left rear pneumatic spring because there was a slow leak from that part. They also cleared all the faults.
After I got the car back, the message was coming only when I first turned the car on. I would turn it back off and on and drive off and the message would not reappear. I let the dealer know and they performed a ride height level adjustment. After I got the car back then, the message did not ever reappear. However, I went to Yellowstone with my family this weekend and the message was a constant irritation
. As soon as I left my house, the message came on continuously even after turning the car off and on. I then adjusted the balance of the items in the cargo area (trollies, bags, and ice boxes.) Now the message went off for about 200 miles. When I stopped at a rest stop and restarted the car to drive off, the message came back on. All the things in the back were how I left them. For the rest of the trip, the message came on and off whether or not things were balanced, how I drove, and also when all the heavy items where left back at the hotel. Turning the car off and on did not help. On the bright side, it was the perfect car this side of a sports car on the winding mountain roads of Yellowstone.
This car has been great except for this message. It is a CPO and I had a PPI completed before I bought it. I may sell the car if this can't be solved. Is it just a minor warning or a major problem? During the trip when the warning was on, I noticed the right side of the car was lower by 1/2 inch. Has anyone experienced a problem such as this?
TIA,
M
