I have started this project with the help of the Bentley Manual (Not too good for the 2000 model)My radiator drain plug is a blue plastic wing nut which turns 1/4 turn then locks up. Does anyone know the next step as I do not want to break it but assume it should pull out with a tug. Any help would be appreciated. Tony

Well, I hate to mention this subject again but if you have over 80-100K, then a complete cooling system overhaul is better than this piecemeal approach of replacing ONLY Thermostat and WP.

The write-up was for a 98 528i, the main difference for 2000 528i is the thermostat.:
1998 thermostat: mechanical type
2000 thermostat: electrical type.
