I placed an order for my X5 35d on Oct. 15. At the time that I placed my order, the BMW website stated an $1800 federal tax credit. I noticed that they changed it a few days later to a $900 tax credit. I then went to the IRS website and was unable to find any info on this. I had my accountant check it out today to double check me, and his verdict is that there are no diesel tax credits listed at all for any BMW. My dealer didn't seem to know a thing about it one way or the other. If anyone has any info on this, I ( and my accountant ) would sure be glad to hear it. Thanks.

Perhaps this was covered before, but this specific post was not answered...

I followed this chain, the last one indicating an $1800 credit for the 2010 BMW X5 xDrive 35d on the US government's IRS site:

http://www.energy.gov/taxbreaks.htm
http://www.irs.gov/businesses/corporations/article/0,,id=202341,00.html
http://www.irs.gov/businesses/corporations/article/0,,id=203912,00.html
http://www.irs.gov/businesses/corporations/article/0,,id=214283,00.html

I did a test run through my 2009 turbo tax today and surprisingly it gave me the credit! (specifying 0% business use) Even though it didn't give me one other stinkin' credit for anything else at all anywhere!!! (Do I sound bitter?)

Hopefully this credit (and the adjunct sales tax deduction) will continue in 2010 for my vehicle purchase.
