Hi Everyone,
I am new to the forum and also a 4 month old owner of a 2012 535ix.
I am reaching out for help about an issue I am having with my BMW.
I am getting the following messages:
1.) Engine bay compartment is hot.
2.) Engine is overheating, please stop engine.
So, I have done the following:
1.) Checked coolant levels - all good
2.) Open cap to radiator, coolant is being pumped so water pump is working
Here are the things I have noticed:
1.) I turn on the AC and once the temp gauge hits 240 the fan kicks in....
2.) Radiator fan kicks in at full speed....Goes off for like 10 seconds and fires back up again.
3.) If the car is parked, leave the ac running after 15-20 minutes message shows engine comparment is hot.
4.) I noticed also behind the kidney grills there are what look like vents that open up once you start the car. But I did notice once the car is hot and the fan is kicking in like crazy, those vents are closed.
So, my thinking is those vents are the issue. I think they should be open when the heat in the engine compartment is very very hot.
Possible relay is bad????
Can someone please help me out and what I can do to fix this issue.
