Hi all, I have a 2012 328i F30 Sedan. 61,000 miles and (like others have experienced), the low-tone horn has gone out. I took it to BMW just to get it diagnosed and an oil change. They told me that the fuse on the horn was good and that the low-tone horn was not working. I looked up the part and I can get a genuine BMW horn for $60. They quoted me $350 to replace it. Because it is a known issue on this model, I refused and complained. They suggested that I call BMW North America to see if they could help with the expense as this is a "known issue" for this car (but no recall).

BMW NA told me they'd cover 50% of the replacement cost, but thats still costing me $175 for a $60 part. I'm very mechanically inclined and can tackle the job myself, so...here is the question:

1. Where is the horn located and what's my best access point? I've seen a couple of references to it being behind the bumper on the driver-side. Can I get to it by taking the wheel-well cover off or do I need to remove the bumper? There is a void of information on the schematics of this car...very frustrating.

Any help or pics would be greatly appreciated

Easy, wheel arch comes out, and horn is right there. It's easiest with the wheel off but probably not completely necessary. The pic I provided, one of the horns is to the right of the aux radiator, and attaches with a simple bolt. Connector clips on. The horn location is the same for both sides.

Thanks so much. Very helpful! Do you know which side is the low-tone and which is the High-tone?
