Hello everyone. This is my first post here. I currently drive a 2010 BMW 328i Xdrive. It currently has 168k miles on it and the repairs are starting to come. I recently had to get the alternator fixed, a belt replaced and the for the second time the oil lid fixed. I was told its a common issue for my models year that the oil lid or tank leaks a lot. I also had to get the engine coils fixed and the radiator fixed. I bought the car from a non BMW dealership and it had 56k miles on it. I drove a lot of miles on this car and I will say for the miles I have driven it the repairs haven't been a lot until recently.

I am looking at getting a newer model of my car, the 2016 BMW 328i Xdrive. I am thinking of getting a CPO that has around 30k miles on it which might help with repairs. I also live closer to work which will help with the miles. Just wanted to know what to expect with repairs on this car and when things start to go bad, miles wise. I don't want to keep on getting expensive repairs done to my current. It still drives great and handles well. What do you think I should do? Upgrade to a newer model? What repairs do I have to look forward to with a 2016 3 series. Thanks in advance!

2016 CPO you should be covered through 2021 and unlimited miles ..... see the in service date for exact expiration date.

Sounds like a pretty good plan. Some early N20 motors had timing chain issues. Enough that BMW extended the warranty. However, by 2016 the issues had been resolved, so that shouldn***8217;t create any long term concerns for you. Other than that the N20 motor seems to be holding up quite well. For the extra $700, you would be making a colossal mistake getting the 320.

If you are in Ardmore, you should consider this 328 instead of going to Turnersville:

The 2016 328i is 42k(8k left on new car warranty), it is a bit high mileage. The CPO is extra 1 year or 2 years these days?

What are the options/packages on these two?

The 2016 320i is 27k.

At that price difference, the 328i (with PA PZEV 15-yr/150k emission coverage) seems OK, even if it is lightly optioned.

Got it. The 320i is N20 without PZEV warranty. The 328i has N28 with PZEV warranty that covers VCG and ignition coils that can be worth more than $700.

The extra 15k miles on 328i can advance maintenance items like AT fluid service, coolant change, and others, but N20/N26 reliability should be solid enough to not worry about that 15k miles.

Yeah I am looking at getting something that won't cost me too much repairs for at least 2 years. I am driving a lot less than I used too so that helps. Repairs now on my current BMW are stacking up quick, trying to get something newer so the BMW Repair shop doesn't know me by a first name basis. Would lower miles be key? Would it matter if its a 320i or 328i? I know the main difference is the horsepower.

My preference usually is low mileage.

320i has 60-70HP and 50lb-ft less than 328i, and 0-60 is one second slower than 328i. 320i still has decent power, 0-60 in 6.8 seconds, so it is really your preference. :)

If u can find one, the last build month of 2016 was June 2016, so those with 1-year CPO will last till June 2021. The prices of those(with equivalent miles) should be identical given it is the same model year.

Yes--which makes it 5 years. I didn't say 5 extra years. My post was answering the specific question.

Under the old system, CPO Elite was 5 years (from in-service date :thumbup:) or 75K total miles; CPO was 6 years (from in-service date) or 100K total miles.

Now, all CPOs are 5 years (from original in-service date) with unlimited miles.

Do a cost benefit analysis, if you haven’t already. What is cheaper, maintaining/repairing the 2010 or buying the 2016? If you have the cash, then buy the ‘16. If you’re making payments, I’d keep the ‘10.
