2016 Navigation Map Updates are starting to be released.

Available now are the following 2016 Maps:

A VIN Specific 2016 Map FSC Coded is needed to install a new map.

If you want to update, and need both FSC Code and Map, I have an excellent source.

PM me for details.

Yes, you can update to 2016-1. It is available now.

If you go to dealer, it is around $300 USD, or you get it from my source for a fraction of that price.

FSC Code is a 20 Character String that is VIN & Map Specific, that must be entered via iDrive Controller before Map can be installed.

PM sent.

Yes, NBT NEXT Map is a single 32 GB USB Install.

New maps bring new streets, additional POI's, and additional 3D Maps, and improvements to the routing algorithm.

Well, what they told you at that time was true. 2016-1 Map was just released. The only Map you ever get from BMW is the Map the car leaves the factory with. They do not even update Maps as part of their CPO Program.

Most likely it has 2015-2.

interested if you have access to the Australian version? (car 2013 build professional nav)

For 609 Professional Navigation option, you have the following Head Units / Map Types in order of introduction:

CCC Head Unit - PROFESSIONAL Map - DVD Based
CIC Head Unit - PREMIUM Map - Hard Drive Based
NBT Head Unit - NEXT Map - Hard Drive Based
NBT2 Head Unit - EVO Map - Hard Drive Based w/ OTA Updates

Can't say what is noticeably different. Never a change Log for new Map.

From Nav Screen, hit Option Button on Controller, and then Scroll down to Display Navigation Version.

Might be interested as well depending on the price, just took delivery of a 2015 435i GC, which has the 2015-2 map. Dealer wasn't very responsive when I asked for a free update...

Please PM.

Is there any way to check which roads are included in the 2016-1 update? I've got a few Garmins with lifetime updates, and as an example a new I15 expressway direct access ramp in San Diego, which was completed summer 2014, still hasn't shown up on their most recent update :thumbdwn:

HERE makes the maps (both for Garmin and BMW), and that onramp has been visible on their website at least since January. Makes you wonder why those maps are so far behind compared to the map data source.

Of course if someone with the 2016 maps is willing to check if the I15 Miramar College DAR is there or not I'd much appreciate that :)

I have never thought it worthwhile to update the mapping because of the cost. When we drive to places like NY or Boston where traffic conditions change rapidly and where there are many routing alternatives, have always found Google Maps to be much better at routing. We keep the navigator on but either my wife or I monitor google maps on our phones. It may be that the navigation has improved in later models; I can only speak for the systems in a 2013 3 series & 2014 X1. I also understand that the 2016 3 series will offer free upgrades for 3 years. Following is quote from press release.
"The navigation maps are automatically updated free of charge for a period of three years via the embedded SIM cards"

This is true for any new car with NBT2 Evo Head Unit.

NBT2 Evo is the Next Generation Head Unit for 609 Professional Navigation, which replaces NBT, which replaced CIC, which replaced CCC.

If you want to see NBT2 Evo Head Unit, go look at an F23 with 609 Professional Navigation.
