2017 Navigation Map Updates (Updated)

2016 Navigation Map Updates are starting to be released.

Available now are the following 2016 Maps:

North America PREMIUM 2016-1 (CIC Systems)

North America NEXT 2016-1 (NBT Systems)

North America ROUTE 2016-1 (ENTRYNAV Systems)

A VIN Specific 2016 Map FSC Coded is needed to install a new map.

If you want to update, and need both FSC Code and Map, I have an excellent source.

PM me for details.

No set schedule. Like all new maps, they drop on us whenever BMW AG sees fit to.

Shawn,
We have a 2013 X1 sDrive28i, and we would like to update our maps.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Dennis

Just upgraded from 2012 to 2016 thanks to Shawn and Gerry. Download went well considering that 4 of the 5 packages are over 4GB is size. Once downloaded and extracted, then it takes maybe 20 minutes or so to copy to each USB stick. Unfortunately for me I only had one 16GB stick so I had to install, delete, upload, and install 3 times to complete the update. I would have burned to a DVD, but I did not have a blank DVD large enough to hold the image. Downloading the the Bimmer also took about 20 minutes or so x3. I kept my car running the whole time because I did not want the navigation system to loose track of where I was in the upgrade process if I shut down the engine and power.

Trust me, you do not want to use DVD if avoidable. Install to car is 1 hour per DVD x 3 (3 hours total) versus 15 Minutes per USB x 3 (45 minutes total).

Correct. 2015 F30 has NBT Head Unit, and you must update map yourself. 2016 LCI F30 has NBT2 (EVO) Head Unit, and it can update OTA.

PM sent.

I recently installed 2016.1 software on my system from 2015.2 and for my area there is a great deal of updates. not so much in terms of firmware or functionality but in POI and road closures/detours. i am not sure if paying the full price is worth if you have 2015-1 but if you have older... then i feel it's worth the time and money.

Has anyone done the update using a battery tender? I don't want to ideal my car for 40 minutes.
That should be fine, but you need to avoid car shutting off during the install.

Easy peasy

This was pretty easy and the response from OP was pretty fast. Took about 45 minutes but I just did it when I was at the gym and checked back on the car every 20 minutes. I used the single usb method as I had a 128gb stick laying around. I'll test the new maps on my way to Memphis from Little Rock today - hopefully the map update as the Big Rock interchange included in it.

You must mean response from Gerry, not me.

I leave my car running places all the time. If you have Key Fob with you, thief isn't going anywhere with car.

I have a 2012 F30. The car was born in February of that year so it missed the July Nav hardware update. If you have information to share about updating the maps, I would love to know.

Thanks

Since both Japan and Hong Kong use same Navigation Application SWID 27, as opposed to SWID 19 for Europe, North America, etc., you should be able to install ROAD MAP HONGKONG MACAO PREMIUM with just normal Map FSC Code.

Your PM function is disabled, so I cannot send you source.
