I'm really debating between a stripped down 128 or a Fully loaded 2010 Mazda 3 for the wife. It even has it's version of CA! It'sd ricey but damn as a 2nd ride I can't really find a good argument against it!

Get what the wife wants. If you don't get it right the first time you will be selling the car earlier than you planned in order to "fix" your error.

And always remember that if she isn't happy you aren't going to be happy.

My g/f has a Mazda Miata MX-5. She doesn't like the care and feeding that German cars require and doesn't mind the reduced performance, so it's a good fit. But of course I'd rather it were a 128 for when I need to drive it.

I think the Mazda 3 is probably a very fun car to drive but I would be worried about the long-term durability of the interior fit and finish (not that my BMW is perfect in that respect).

Go with the Mazda. The wife will feel more special if it's a brand new car... all her own. Happy wife, happy husband.
