325i central locking issue
Hey, I've read a lot of threads on this issue but haven't found one that resolves this issue or is exactly like it.
So I have a 2003 325i and the central locking has some serious mood swings. Sometimes it works fine but sometimes only the driver door will unlock with the key in the door and no other doors will. Not even from the inside pulling on the handle. I can hear the other doors trying to unlock but they don't. The central locking will lock the driver door when pressed but again I can hear the other doors trying to unlock but nothing happens.
After a lot of pressing/turning the key I can usually get the other doors unlocked but it is a huge pain in the ass as I have to have passengers climb through the driver door sometimes.
I have checked all the fuses to do with the central locking and they are all working fine.
Anyone have any ideas on what could be the issue?

I'm having the same issue... Were you able to find a solution?
Just found the solution...
insert remote
start engine
turn engine off
press/hold lock while pressing unlock 3 times quickly
I then got out of the car, locked & unlocked the doors and SUCCESS!!

The cars body control module, sometimes called the GM5 is bad. Just google "BMW GM5 repair"
Intermittent no unlock is the typical symptom.
Don't both with cdgardner's key resync post above it only applies if none of the buttons on the remote work. If at least one button works then the key is sync'd to the car and the resync procedure is completely unnecessary.

This sounds like the exact issue/solution to my problem. Thank you so much for your help.
I don't know. I had a pretty similar situation a few weeks ago, and the above-described key procedure fixed my issue (well, except now it won't keep track of driver seat memory).
I'd say it's worth a shot, especially given the cost of the GM5 replacement ... :eeps:

I had these symptoms in my 325 when the battery was about 4 years old. I had no problem starting the car, but other things didn't work or worked intermittently. New battery - everything worked and have since.
I've heard of this before as well. Again, may not work, but if it does, it's a whole lot cheaper than the new GM5 ... I'm just sayin' 
You don't want a new GM5, that's really way too expensive. If you're reasonably good with a soldering iron (and a little brave) you can replace the 3 relays yourself. Or, you can send it to the guy at www.bmwgm5.com to fix it for you. I bought the replacement relays from him and did the repair myself, but the pins are pretty tiny and desoldering the old ones was a bit of a chore. Most people would be better off, I think, sending it away for repair.
Hmm could be the battery. Didn't think of that. I think it's the same battery since it was built. I also notice that sometimes the volume/track buttons on the wheel don't work but sometimes they are fine.
