We started off on Saturday with the intentions of stripping down my rims and polishing them followed by a clear coat. Well... the road to hell is paved with good intentions! we used the stripper on the rims, but all it did was make a gooey mess! We worked on them for 3 hours before finally giving up. We wiped them down with mineral spirits to get some of the goo off and then started sanding. I didn't take any pics of the process because, well, it was the first time in my career of messing with cars that I actually thought I really screwed up and couldn't fix it! Needless to say, we got them sorta smooth before the sun set with sandpaper, used a filler primer (2 coats), shot them with gunmetal paint (2 coats) and finished off with 3 coats of clear. Grand total for the paint: $36. Granted, I know the finish won't last as long as either automotive paint or powdercoat, but it should at least last a year or so.

Now for the pics!

Without clear on it:
