Just by the subject heading, you can tell what is to follow. No, my car didn't get stolen and I didn't get into an accident so nothing "bad" happened like that. Ok, I went down to Livingston NJ with a friend because he was intereted in buying a used S4 from this guy who lived there. Anyway, I used my nav system to get us there and it did perfect. HOWEVER, on the way back to my house in Manhasset Long Island, it totally messed up. It told me to exit from the guys street and directed me to what looked familiar. Then, it started to get all confused. It brought me to this ghetto place and kept on blanking out like it's recalulating a route from a missed turn. I followed all of it's directions and it kept taking me in circles. So, I decided to disobey it and let it recalculate a new route. It told me to make a U turn and it brought me back to the same area where I had been before. THE GHETTO. Not to mention, I was priviliged to witness an actual police bust on some guy with a gun. Anyway, I followed it's directions and noticed that on one street, it had the street name wrong. It even told me to make a left turn where there wasn't a left turn. Basically, it was totally confused. I had to find my way out of there with the help of directions from a stranger. As I got on the highway, 280 or something like that, it kept blanking out and recalculating itself. All in all, it just didn't help. Sometimes it knew where we were but just didn't get us out of the area. It's quirky. Don't get me wrong, I like it and it has saved me a few times but this time, it screwed me and wasted 45minutes of my time. I think the lesson here is always have an idea of where you are and a general idea of how to get the hell out. Should I upgrade my software to the 18 version? I originally downloaded what Alee had put up on the web. Does that take care of the problem or is it still going to screw me like this? Thanks to anyone who has any advice, suggestions, or thoughts on the issue. Sorry for the long post my friends. I just feel alittle angry that this $1800 works sometimes and not others. :(

Sorry to hear it. There are only 2 possible solutions, neither of which are guaranteed...

a. Upgrade to V18. The route calculations are sigificantly improved over the older V17. V18 is a dramatic upgrade though, so upgrade only if you're sure. You can always downgrade, but I would say why go through the trouble. Here are the screenshots of V18.

b. If you're running on an outdated NavTech Map 6, time to get a new one.

One other idea...

If you're being taken in circles and going nowhere, try switching the route type from Fastest Route to something else.

My instinct is to say you found a bug in the map software.

Thanks alee. I will up grade then to V.18. As you can imigine, it was quite frustrating. I really like the nav system in all. I don't use it all that much but when I do, it's given me some problems. Anyway I have one question. I have a zip file for the "Key-CD" and one for the "software-CD." TO I extract them and then burn that extracted files on to a disk? I remember Clone CD mentioned but I am unsure on how to use it ro what I should actually do. If you would be so kind as to just give me a few directions, I would appreciate it. I know you have spoken on this topic 1000X over so I REALLY appreciate it. Regards.

For each zip file, unzip it. Use CloneCD to burn a new disk by reading the "image" file that is contained within each zip file.

So in short, CloneCD builds the master disks. You run Clone CD, and it will ask you for an Image file. You load the image file that was contained in the ZIP. Then use Clone CD to burn that image to a CD.

Once you have both disks, insert the main disk, let it upgrade, and when prompted for the Key CD, insert it.
