That's funny...

I want to switch out mine for a 528i 4:10 diff.

Where did you find the 3:46???

Thanks!

Bavarian Recycling or something like that, its a salvage yard for only BMW's...the question still remains is this a relatively simple swap???

A diff swap is a diff swap. As long as you're sure it'll fit, then it's straightforward. A lot of work, but straightforward.

Oh man your motor will be buzzing on the hwy with a 4.10.

Ever see those guys with a heavy duty, drag built Mustang or Camaro that are in the slow lane on the Xway going about 47 mph while their engine is screaming at 4000 rpm?

And all they can do is look at you with that "what's wrong" look.

Seriously 4.10 is too deep, I think you would be sorry on your first drive.

It is too much. And your top speed will be around 90mph.

Not to mention that you will be shifting so much, I bet you'd lose time in lower speeds. I went from a 2.81 to a 3.15 and my 0-60 is actually slower (although quarter mile is a different story). I couldn't imagine having a 4.10:yikes:

It SHOULD fit. I put a 530i auto 3.46 diff into my 5 speed 530i.

You will have to most likely change the input flang. Its one 30mm bolt and just switch the manual one into the auto one.

Everything else will bolt up perfectly.

The reason I suggested the 4:10 diff, is because I know guys the have an 525i step with the swapped in 4:10 diff.

"Shardul" has done it.

He has said that his top end speed is very minimally affected.

I will try PM'ing him and ask...

I thought the swap would be a good mod to help with the low end torque....
