Have not had this problem to tackle, but most around here recommend Timesert.

Yes, but what are you doing it to - what part of the car?

I did one to the right rear wheel carrier when I discovered the integral link bolt was stripped out. Not a lot of room, removing the wheel liner doesn't really help, so I had to drill out the hole and retap it by hand. Still pretty easy.

time serts are better then heli coil but the process of making a hole's diamater larger to accept a thread insert is the same,


you could just weld it close redrill it.. and thread it
