Hi have a e34 540 V8 6 speed which has a suspect head i also have a auto e34 540 sitting on my drive with a sweet engine.

Im question is has anyone ever carried out an engine swap taken an engine 4.0 V8 out of auto set up car and fitted into a manual set up i imagine it should just be a case of changing the flywheel.......

how worng am i???

Just swap flywheel and install pilot bearing for trans input shaft.
CAVEAT; I have heard not all cranks are bored for a pilot bushing so it would be wise to inspect your donor before removing both engines.
Perhaps somebody here will be able to offer more

If you have both an auto and a 6 speed 540 it is straight forward. I did a 6 speed conversion on a 95 540ia. My daughter wrecked it this April. I am now moving the 6 speed drive train to a 93 530it shell.
