6WB Retrofit - Coding Required

I finally got around to installing my 6WB MFID Instrument Cluster. :D

Since mine was a brand new virgin Kombi, no EEPROM work was necessary to blank the donor car's mileage and VIN. Install was a breeze, and Coding was just a matter of adding 6WB to the VO, changing VO Production date to 1211, and VO Coding DKombi and HU_CIC.

Since my car does not have ECO Pro, I get just the Comfort and Sport mode displays.

Upgrading from the basic Kombi to either 6WA or 6WB is a dramatic improvement, and worth every penny. If I already had 6WA though, I personally would stick with it rather than invest in 6WB.

Hello Guys,

I landed on this forum because couple of weeks ago I had my 6WB speedo, NBT HU, iDrive controler and CID stolen.

I managed to buy the following from different eBay sellers

6WB Cluster - 62109319485 HW:032 SW:A702 INDEX:X37 DATE 31.07.2013
NBT HU - 65129387558 HW:31 DATE 17/15
iDrive controler - 65829350723 HW 03.02.00 SW 03.0A.01 DATE 12.11.16
CID - 65509321016 HW 00 08 FDV 30 07 DATE 12.07.2016

The car is F11 530xD October.2012, from the original specs I have only changed the iDrive controler with the touch version.
Last night I spent few hours reading about blanking the 6WB eeprom and I think I did it today. Will go ahead with installing all the bits and bops tomorrow. Will keep you posted.

Bearing in mind that all equipment I bought is with newer than the car production date, will it work? Do I need specific coding for the touch iDrive? The car left the factory with 6WB, will the new unit pick up the coding from the car?

The car has 6AA, 6AB, 6NF, 6NK, 6NR, 609, 614, 615, how to code them back to the NBT?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you guys in advance!

ZBE also requires a TBX Handwriting Module if you want the Touch functionality, and then coding the following to aktiv:

ZBE_TOUCH
ZBE_TOUCH_BROWSER
ZBE_TOUCH_INTERACTIVE_MAP
ZBE_TOUCH_SPELLER

Then the ZBE should work by default with just VO Coding of NBT and ZBE.

Newer modules should not be an issue.

How about retrofit items? Like for instance the auxiliary heater. Then the FA needs to be adjusted and show up in car retrofit item list. That's why I tried to believe for the 6wb this would be similar.

If you order some Offical Retrofit from BMW AG that requires an FA Update, then BMW AG will do it, not dealer.

Yes but dealer installs the package. And then needs to enable it. So my thinking is that the dealer may have the authority to upload new FA to the server once installed in the car.

For instance, if I installed the auxiliary heater as retrofit I don't want it disabled if I bring in the car for service next time.

Ask your dealer then...
