6WB Retrofit - Coding Required

I finally got around to installing my 6WB MFID Instrument Cluster. :D

Since mine was a brand new virgin Kombi, no EEPROM work was necessary to blank the donor car's mileage and VIN. Install was a breeze, and Coding was just a matter of adding 6WB to the VO, changing VO Production date to 1211, and VO Coding DKombi and HU_CIC.

Since my car does not have ECO Pro, I get just the Comfort and Sport mode displays.

Upgrading from the basic Kombi to either 6WA or 6WB is a dramatic improvement, and worth every penny. If I already had 6WA though, I personally would stick with it rather than invest in 6WB.

Hello!

AFAIK the LDW in HUD is not possible with a 6WB (the same with turnsignals in HUD). You can see the lines only in the cluster.

Thank you Shawn. I know it's a physically differences, but I saw some rusian guys did it, so I will like to try. Maybe with an modified FA for F10, but with my cars options, the cluster will work, and about physical differences, I will try first to integrate an F10 6WA into my old F30 cluster. I don't know if this will go well or not, but at least I will try and I will inform others. I may need some help from you, and I will ask for your opinion when I will have all the pieces needed.

Would love to see how yours progresses. I am currently doing this on my F30 as well, and I am trying to resolve the coding/programming issues, then worry about fitting it in there.

Size wise, I can tell you that it is a different shape, and you most likely would not be able to take the internals out and put them into the F30 housing. In the videos/pictures of the people who have done it, you can tell it is just the 6WB in the opening, as there is a slight gap in the top left/right corners.

I did try seeing if it would be easy to just slide the 6WB into the opening, however due to the size differences and the size of the opening, it would take some work. It seems like it might be easier to attempt with the steering wheel off, however my initial thoughts are that if it won't fit through the opening, it would require either:
- pulling the dash out to slide the cluster in place
- putting the cluster into the opening while it is taken apart, and then finding a way to snap the pieces back together once it is through the opening

Like I said, once I am able to get it actually working, then I will start on figuring out how to get it into place.

I've had my 6WB coded to my 2012 F10 520d

Hi Peeps,

I've recently gone and purchased the 6WB cluster and had it remotely coded so it would work.. There were a few teething problems at first but a friend of the remote coder got me connecting my car to another car via jump leads whilst they flashed the cluster..

Everything works, well everything apart from one little thing.

The mileage counter was sat at 000000 for the first day, then it started increasing but alas it's not return to the correct value - were it should be in the thousands, it's currently saying I've done 72 miles ***128530;***128566;***128530;

Does anyone know how I can get it fixed?

I was told that this only happens if 1 of 2 things are happening.. 1, the mileage has already been tampered with (erm, no - the original mileage prior to the 6WB is legitimate) or 2, the software on the car compared to the 6WB software is out of date and causing this, therefore the car needs a software update but this can only be done at a dealership - is that true?

I just love the new 6WB but if it means I have to keep swapping the cluster so I can take it for a service, is going to be a bummer.

Can anyone give me some advice?

Was the 6WB millage set to 0000000 in both chips? As far as I know ( I'm trying to retrofit 6WB on F30 ) , 6WB has 2 chips that contains millage and VIN, if they were not corectly erased then maybe this could be a problem. Seccond, if you really need an software update to your car, is not necesary to go to dealer. Maybe some garage near you has an ICOM and ISTA-P or an ENET and ESYS with full data , and can upgrade your car. I'm doing this things in my region. Please keep us updated with your results.

Hi Larry, good question but one I can't answer. I bought the unit from a company in Ireland who had it shipped from Germany.. When I connected it and the chap remotely tried to configure it the only thing that worked on it was the speedo, the Rev counter, mileage etc didn't work - the mileage, trip and mpg were all 0. I was getting multiple dash errors and the tamper dot.

Then a few days ago, they had arranged someone from Europe to remote connect. They downloaded some extra software but removed it after the cluster started working.. I do have the esys, full data and enet cable but I've only program bits, never anything this big.

I live in the Northwest of England, so finding a none dealing who can upgrade the cars software without killing my would be brilliant or better still if both the 2 chips can be fixed to match would be better.
