Baby's Progress:thumb:

VAC Motorsports let me have Baby for 4 days the weekend before last. The 6-Speed was in but the SC hadn't been done yet. SC is being bolted in today.

I have never seen a car this big with this kind of response to the throttle. The 16 lb flywheel spools up very fast. One AM on my way into work I pushed Baby to see how she felt. I ran through the gears, shifting at 6000 just to see what I should expect. I was surprised to see 132 mph going into 5th gear. I never made it into 6th because of someone ahead not pedaling as fast as I was.

I am wondering what will happen with another 100 hp on tap with the SC.

VAC Motorsports put some pics of my car on their site. I haven't done my site yet because the SC install isn't done yet.http://www.vacmotorsports.com/gallery/project_img.html

This is getting me aroused:D

I drove a 740i around for a while, and the only thing I didn't like about that car was the steptronic.

Do you have any interior pics with the 6-spd??

VERY NICE!! :D
Thank you.

I have a pic of when they were putting in the shifter, but the correct boot & shift knob has yet to come from Germany so the one in there now is something they put in for me to play with. When things finally get done, I'll take some pics of the console & pedals.

Congrats! :thumb: Man, I'd love to take that baby for a spin... :D

What are your impressions before/after SC+6-sp?

So, what's next 740iL? V12? :thumb:

Does Famke Janssen (the one mod I wish I could install in Baby) come with that martini?:D

There should have been a factory 6 speed option in the E38 :)
There was a factory 6-speed option for the E38 - just not imported to the US...tragic for us. It's the one single most lacking detail of this magnificent car. I hope to follow in Simeon's footsteps and do my own 6-speed conversion this coming year.

If anyone hears about a used 6-speed tranny for sale from a 540i or similar, let me know.

"T"

I understood that the E38 with the optional manual transmission was the 740i only and not the 740iL. It was available in Europe only. Not sure about Austrailia or South America though.

Hope to see you Guyz next friday.

Hmm- well you have to count the 728i as well- that had a manual option but I believe it was just a 5 speed.
Thank you. I missed that. The sad thing is the "Bastard Step-Children" in the USA never got the E38 728i nor the 750i, let alone ANY manual transmission E38.

I guess we weren't worth the bother.:(

Baby's Performance Project Draws to a Close

After 10 weeks it's done. I put the details into words on Baby's CarDomain Web Page. If you have a minute or two to check the site out, I would appreciate your comments.

Thanks

OMG, that is absolutely NUTS! :D :D :D

I saw mention in the DelValCCA about your car being in One Lap!

I'm definitely keeping an eye out for your beast on the Philly roads. :thumb:

VAC sounds like a first rate shop too. Sounds like these guys really know what they're doing.

Alee,
To visit VAC is to peer into what makes a BMW motor and drive system. Armand handles the service end of the business, while Tony is the racer/machinist. Tony immediately gave me the impression he is not an exhaust pipe salesman. He knows what works and what can & cannot be done, because he sits in the race cars he builds.

If your ever in S. Philly stop in and see for yourself.
