I am considering a 2012/13 7 series but I am unsure of the difference in quality of ride between the 750li X vs RWD. What say you.

I have 13 750LiX. I can't imagine the ride to be considerably harsh between the 3 you mention. Since it is subjective, why not drive it for yourself and make the determination?

I say get the RWD to avoid the added cost of upkeep with the xDrive system

Do you really need AWD? Also, do you want firm or soft suspension? If you want firm, the only choice is F01 RWD.

I would recommend staying away from anything pre-LCI, as well as early build 2013 if possible. On LCI RWD models, you also get EPS instead of hydraulic. It actually gets a bit heavier when you put it in Sport (chassis) mode, plus it's one less fluid to change, leak, etc. As Jay mentioned above, xDrive transfer case problems are expensive.
