I have this '86 733i here without an engine, everything else on the vehicle is still present, but it's missing an engine. Now I have an opportunity here; on CL there's an '82 320i for cheap that comes with an extra engine. What does anyone know about the possibility of swapping into my '86 whatever engine that an '82 320i had?

The motor you should have is a 3.3 liter. Denoted by the last 2 numbers of the model --the 33 in 733

A 320 only has a 2.0 liter motor and it wold be inadequate in a 7 series.

A motor from any BMW model ending in 33 or 35 would work The straight six 3.0 motor (30 in the model) would work but the later 3.0 v8 would not be compatible.

Excellent thank you for the information. One last question then, for you or anyone else out there that may know the answer; what years could I use with the I6? (referring to retaining gauge and sensor PnP/function.
