95 740i - Ignition lock

on a 1995, 740i. I had to change my steering colum. I got a good used one, but now I have two different keys to get into the car and to use in the ignition. The ignition lock from the old steering colum is almost new. My manual says the lock can be removed quite easily, but for some reason I can`t get it to come out. Can I swap these one for the other with out too much trouble? How?

I think it is held in by a weird cam/lock in a key-way. I saw a good BMW tech take mine out in 20sec with a paper clip. I spent hours and still could not get it. Very easy once you have the secret info - then they kill you.
