hi everyone,

My E30's A/C is not working. The compressor turns on but does not blow cold. After reading some forums I took a shot in the dark and bought one of those R12a recharge kits with a gauge. The gauge read 0 when I hooked it up so I immediately though that there was no refrigerant in the system. After filling the system to 40 PSI I let the car run and turned the AC on. Still nothing. I called a local A/C repair shop and all the owner said was "waste of money". He won't even look at the system because he says its just going to be a money pit. Any ideas of what the problem could be? Would it be worth getting it checked out by someone else?

In full disclosure, it is a cabrio, so A/C is not a must. But sometimes I take longer highway roadtrips and the A/C would be nice for those drives with the top up when the humidity is unbearable. ANY suggestions are helpful and much appreciated.

Take it somewhere else. The snob you called obviously doesn't want to be bothered, and would be a poor choice for the repair. The system needs the attention of a caring professional.

That shop owner obviously don't need your business. Take it to someone else.
Where did you get R12? If the system has been converted to R134a you can't put R12 back in.

In any case, the system has to be professionally evacuated and recharged, then look for leaks.
