I thought I would pass these discussions along since they are coming from a slightly different perspective than usual (i.e. from 'tech people' instead of 'car people').

There is one at slashdot ("Computers and Cars: A Maddening Experience?") and the another [older] discussion is at Kuro5hin (Reinventing the automotive UI or just another gimmick - the BMW 7 Series) . There are some interesting points raised in both forums IMHO.

For those not familiar with either forum, sometimes it helps to raise the threshold a bit so you can view the better comments without all the extra noise. Enjoy!

The I-drive may be good in concept, but I do not want to feel like I'm playing a video game. Give me analog gauges and all the buttons/levers I can push. Surfing the net with my wireless trackball is one thing, but I don't want to drive with it. :lmao: I think computers have their place, but as a rule, keep it simple stupid.
